Sitting out · Still paid (for now)
Dylan Larkin has forfeited

so far. He's sitting out until the Red Wings trade him. The moment they stop paying him, this meter starts running.

When it does, this counter stops for good.

Not my team. Same playbook.
I'm not from Detroit, and I'm not a Red Wings fan. I'm a Jets fan. This fall, I built Hellebucks, a counter that tracked the salary Connor Hellebuyck gave up after he requested a trade, failed to report to Jets training camp and was suspended by the team.
That saga ended on Oct. 23, when the Jets traded him to New Jersey. He'd gone 24 days without pay, worth about $927,835. And he got exactly what he wanted.
Less than a week later, Dylan Larkin decided he'd had enough, too.
Larkin had been doing this the other way. He asked for a trade, lost the captaincy and showed up to play anyway. According to Sportsnet's sources, he felt he'd done right by the Red Wings by playing through his trade request. Then, after a face-to-face meeting with his agent, he told the team he'd sit out until he's traded. On Oct. 29, the Red Wings suspended him without pay.
Maybe the timing is a coincidence. Maybe it isn't. Either way, I'm one of a lot of NHL fans seeing a pattern here: a player signs a long contract, decides partway through that he'd rather be somewhere else, and stops playing until he gets his way.
I don't have a dog in this fight. I just think somebody should keep count.
If the Red Wings stop paying him, the meter starts. When he's traded or back in the lineup, it stops.
